The first phase saw the construction of the dams for three large ponds (over 20 feet deep) and a reservoir or reserve pond, together with an automatic pumping system to maintain and regulate pond depth. Graded and graveled roads were also built to service the entire complex and continue to be well maintained; several irrigated food plots, feed storage silos, deer feeders and cleared fields were added as well.
As the complex began to take shape a variety of service outbuildings were needed, including four dog kennels, and an 80 X 74 well-equipped maintenance shop. This shop has sheds on three sides for large equipment storage, lighted skinning areas, walk-in coolers, upstairs storage and extra rooms for gun cleaning and reloading ammunition.
Fishing and feeding piers were constructed to accommodate fishermen interested in the 1-2 pound brim and 10-12 pound bass that are caught regularly (the ponds are stocked with large mouth bass, brim, crappie, hybrid striped bass and several species of catfish). The 40 X 20 fish camp building near pond 1 is split between a covered outdoors picnic area and an air-conditioned processing area with freezer chests, refrigerator, sink and a stainless steel prep table.
Next came the eight stall barn (one is a double sized 20 X 10 broodmare stall) complete with automatic waterers, wash stall, tack room, two hay storage areas and a utility room with half bath, washers & dryers and fly sprayer. To complete the equine aspect of the property, a lighted arena with jumps, a 198 x 66 dressage arena, covered horse trailer storage near the barn, hay fields and numerous cedar log framed cross-country jumps were also added.
There is a 3,500 square foot residence lodge on pond #1; to compliment the lodge; a 24 foot lighted gazebo was built overlooking the pond with walkways and an arched bridge. The lodge consists of three sections: First, a 1,200 square foot owner’s wing containing an office, a bedroom with full bath, kitchen and family room, another half bath and a laundry with a connecting door; next, a 1,700 square foot central section that is made up of a 20 x 34 paneled great room with stone fireplace and vaulted and sky lighted ceiling, plus a den, bedroom, full bath with shower plus washer and dryer; and, finally, a 660 square foot guest wing with a large bedroom, sitting room and full bath. The lodge is completed by a large covered hot tub and fenced ornamental garden to the rear of the central section, double carports at each end of the lodge and a state of the art sound system throughout.
A 40 X 80 gaming lawn area with flowering shrubbery perimeter, Azaleas that bloom spring through fall and the many fruit trees all conspire to provide a lovely setting near the lodge. This is just one of the areas Powder Kegg offers for hosting of special events. There is also a Gazebo Island and Bridge perfect for weddings and other special events, as well as a Fish Camp Area for fish fries, picnics or dancing.
536.26 of the fenced acres are offered for sale at this time and, in addition, there is an assumable long-term lease in place on 166 acres. The understanding is that the owner of the 166 acres will be allowed to participate in the fish and game facilities and activities of the preserve, but that the lease is primarily for maturing the trees and game that grow upon it. These 166 leased acres are separated from the owned 536.26 acres by an internal road but nearly all of the 702.26 total acres is within the perimeter high fence.
